Recognized as a National Register of Historic Places Travel Itinerary, the Journey Through Hallowed Ground Byway in Virginia traverses the northern Virginia Piedmont, encompassing centuries of historic sites amidst scenic settings. From the southern shore of the Potomac River at the Point of Rocks bridge, the byway makes its way south through historic towns like the bustling Leesburg and the once critical transportation hub in the Town of Culpepper. The byway's flourishing farming culture and rich Civil War history is also evident through registered historic plantations, lush vineyards, farmer's markets, Civil War battlefields, numerous antique shops, and former homes of some of the nation's most cherished founding fathers. On a drive, walk, or bike ride through the Journey Through Hallowed Ground Byway corridor, you'll experience an essential part of the region "Where America Happened."
